Wednesday, February 12, 2007 - Server Changes and Upgrades



MNNS is in the process of upgrading mail and web servers, and as a result, updating our policies, as well as making a few changes to the location and URL of personal web spaces.



Server Upgrades

During the week of February 12, 2006, server changes and upgrades will be taking place after 5pm that will replace our main mail server, as well as move all MNNS.COM web pages and services over to another server.

During the upgrades, you may not be able to send, or receive email, or access the webmail interface. We will do everything we can to keep these outages as short as possible, however there will be at least three different occasions that you may experience these short outages.



Policy Changes

We have noticed a number of email accounts that have gone unused for very long periods of time (>6 months), causing them to effectively become "spam traps", ultimately wasting server resources, and affecting overall quality of service to all customers. As such, we will be enforcing the maximum message age of messages stored in the "INBOX" folder to 3 months effective March 1st, 2006. You may use the webmail service to move messages from your "INBOX" to another folder to avoid the message age limit - messages kept in folders other than the main "INBOX" folder are not subject to this policy. Please retrieve or move any messages that are older than 3 months now to avoid those messages being pruned from your mailbox.



Personal Web Space Changes

As a result of the server upgrades, effective immediately, all personal web spaces have changed from the previous URL in the form of http://www.mnns.com/~username/ to http://username.pages.mnns.com/

Customers that had web content in their web directories have had that content moved to the new location already, with a "redirect" in place to automatically forward visitors to the new location. Customers that were not using their web space were not affected.

In addition, personal web space will not be automatically created for customers. Personal web space will remain free of charge to customers by request only.
